How to Get to Ibiza from the US: Routes from New York, LA, Chicago, Miami and More
By Jasper - Updated 28 Oct 2026
Short answer: there is no nonstop flight from the US to Ibiza today, so every American trip connects in Europe, usually in Madrid or Barcelona. Fly nonstop from your city to Spain, then take a 1 to 1.5 hour flight to Ibiza (IBZ). From 31 May 2027 United plans the first US nonstop, seasonal from Newark (EWR), which helps most if you live near New York. Everything about that route is on our United Newark-Ibiza flights page.
Below is the practical version: which US cities have nonstop flights to Madrid or Barcelona, which hubs have flights on to Ibiza, and how to build a connection that doesn't go wrong. Schedules change every season, so always confirm on the airline's own site before you book.
Quick answer by city
| Your city | Best first leg (nonstop) | Then to Ibiza |
|---|---|---|
| New York (JFK, Newark) | Madrid or Barcelona, year-round, several airlines | Short hop from Madrid or Barcelona; United nonstop EWR-IBZ from 31 May 2027 |
| Los Angeles | Madrid on Iberia, year-round | Hop from Madrid |
| San Francisco | Barcelona (United) or Madrid (Iberia), summer only | Hop from Barcelona or Madrid |
| Chicago | Madrid on Iberia, year-round; Barcelona in summer | Hop from Madrid or Barcelona |
| Miami | Madrid or Barcelona, year-round | Hop from Madrid or Barcelona |
| Boston | Madrid or Barcelona, mainly in summer | Hop from Madrid or Barcelona |
| Washington Dulles | Madrid or Barcelona, short winter break | Hop from Madrid or Barcelona |
| Atlanta | Madrid on Delta, year-round; Barcelona in summer | Hop from Madrid or Barcelona |
| Dallas-Fort Worth | Madrid, year-round; Barcelona outside winter | Hop from Madrid or Barcelona |
| Charlotte, Philadelphia, Orlando | Madrid; Barcelona from Philadelphia in summer and from Charlotte from 27 May 2027 | Hop from Madrid or Barcelona |
New York (JFK and Newark)
New York has the most choice. From JFK, Iberia, Delta, American and Air Europa fly nonstop to Madrid, and American, Delta and LEVEL fly to Barcelona. From Newark, United and Iberia fly to Madrid and United flies to Barcelona, with fewer flights in winter (2026-27 US-Spain nonstop overview). LEVEL pauses its JFK-Barcelona flights from 19 January to 15 March 2027 (AeroRoutes).
From 31 May 2027 United plans a seasonal Newark-Ibiza nonstop, about four times a week until early October, subject to government approval. Note it is Newark, not JFK. See United Newark-Ibiza flights for days, aircraft and booking tips.
Los Angeles
Iberia is the only airline flying nonstop between Los Angeles and Spain: LAX-Madrid runs daily in summer and about three times a week in winter, in roughly 11 hours (Directflights.com). LEVEL's LAX-Barcelona route was suspended from 25 October 2026 (AeroRoutes). On days without the Iberia flight, you can connect through an East Coast hub such as New York, Dallas or Miami to Madrid or Barcelona, or fly LAX to London or Amsterdam and connect to Ibiza from there in season.
San Francisco
San Francisco's Spain flights are summer only. United flies SFO-Barcelona from spring to October and Iberia flies SFO-Madrid about three times a week in summer (SFO nonstop destinations, 2026-27 US-Spain nonstop overview). In winter, connect through a US hub or another European hub.
Chicago
Iberia flies Chicago O'Hare-Madrid year-round, daily for most of the year and six times a week from mid-January to late March 2027. American also flies ORD-Madrid, but pauses it from 1 December 2026 to 3 March 2027. In summer, United and American add nonstop flights to Barcelona (2026-27 US-Spain nonstop overview, Aviation Analysis).
Miami
Miami is one of the best-connected US cities for Spain. Iberia, American and Air Europa fly nonstop to Madrid, and American and LEVEL fly to Barcelona (2026-27 US-Spain nonstop overview). LEVEL pauses Miami-Barcelona from 21 January to 28 February 2027 (AeroRoutes).
Boston, Washington, Atlanta and Dallas
- Boston: Iberia, Delta and JetBlue fly to Madrid and Delta and JetBlue to Barcelona, mostly in the summer season.
- Washington Dulles: United and Iberia fly to Madrid and United to Barcelona. United pauses Madrid from 5 January to 18 February 2027 and Barcelona from 5 January to 10 February 2027.
- Atlanta: Delta flies to Madrid year-round (fewer flights in January and February) and to Barcelona in summer.
- Dallas-Fort Worth: American and Iberia fly to Madrid. American's Barcelona flights pause from 19 November 2026 to 2 March 2027.

Charlotte, Philadelphia, Orlando and everywhere else
American flies nonstop to Madrid from Charlotte and Philadelphia, adds Philadelphia-Barcelona in summer and starts Charlotte-Barcelona daily on 27 May 2027 (American Airlines newsroom). Iberia flies Orlando-Madrid four times a week. From Houston, Denver, Seattle, Phoenix and other cities, the simplest plan is usually a domestic flight to one of the hubs above, then a nonstop to Madrid or Barcelona, on one ticket.
The last leg: Madrid, Barcelona, London or Amsterdam to Ibiza
- Madrid: Iberia Express, Air Europa and Ryanair fly to Ibiza year-round. The flight takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
- Barcelona: Vueling and Ryanair fly to Ibiza year-round, in about 1 hour.
- London: British Airways flies from London City year-round and adds Heathrow and Gatwick in summer. easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair and TUI add summer flights from several London airports.
- Amsterdam: Transavia flies year-round, and KLM and easyJet add summer flights.
- Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Lisbon also have flights to Ibiza, mostly in summer.
From November to March Ibiza's flight network shrinks a lot, so in winter Madrid and Barcelona are the safest bets. See the best time to visit Ibiza for what is open when.
How to build a connection that works
- Book one ticket all the way to Ibiza (IBZ) when you can. If your first flight is late, the airline has to rebook you, and your bags are checked through. On two separate tickets a missed connection is your problem, and you usually have to collect and re-check your bags.
- Madrid and Barcelona are the easiest hubs. Most US flights land in the morning, so a same-day connection to Ibiza is normal, and Iberia's transatlantic flights and Iberia Express use the same Madrid terminal area (T4 and T4S).
- Your passport is checked at the first Schengen airport you land in. Connecting in Madrid, Barcelona or Amsterdam, you clear immigration there, so allow time for the line. Via London you are outside Schengen, so you clear immigration in Ibiza. Entry rules for Americans are in our visa and entry guide.
- Compare total door-to-door time, not just price. A cheaper fare with a long layover in a third city often costs you a day of your trip.
- In July and August, book early. Ibiza flights from Spanish and European hubs fill up and get expensive. Our Ibiza trip cost guide has a full budget in dollars.
- Using points: Iberia and American are both oneworld airlines, and United and Lufthansa are Star Alliance, so check award space on the whole route. Our Amex in Ibiza guide covers paying with your card once you arrive.
When you land in Ibiza
Ibiza Airport is about 15 minutes from Ibiza Town. There are taxis and buses, but in July and August the taxi line can be long. Our getting around Ibiza guide explains your options, and a pre-booked VIP transfer means a driver is waiting when you walk out, which is worth it after an overnight flight. If you are staying in a villa, our villa rentals team can arrange the transfer with your check-in.
FAQ
Can you fly direct from the US to Ibiza?
Not yet. United plans the first nonstop, Newark (EWR) to Ibiza (IBZ), from 31 May 2027, seasonal and about four times a week. Until then every trip connects in Europe, usually in Madrid or Barcelona.
What is the fastest way to get to Ibiza from New York?
Today, a nonstop from JFK or Newark to Madrid or Barcelona, then a 1 to 1.5 hour flight to Ibiza on the same ticket. From 31 May 2027, United's seasonal Newark-Ibiza nonstop will be the fastest option on the days it flies.
How do you get to Ibiza from Los Angeles?
Iberia flies nonstop from LAX to Madrid, daily in summer and about three times a week in winter, and you connect to Ibiza from there. Otherwise connect through an East Coast hub, London or Amsterdam.
Is it better to connect in Madrid or Barcelona?
Both work well and both have year-round flights to Ibiza. Pick the one with a nonstop from your city and the shorter layover. Madrid has more US routes; Barcelona's Ibiza flight is a little shorter.
Can I connect through London to Ibiza?
Yes, but flights from London to Ibiza are mostly seasonal and many leave from Gatwick, Luton or Stansted, not Heathrow. Check the airport and book everything on one ticket if you can.
Is there a ferry option?
Yes. Ferries run to Ibiza from Barcelona, Valencia and Denia on mainland Spain. It is slower than flying but useful if you are already traveling in Spain.
